The celebrations kicked off with the Jubilee Picnic where the simple pleasure of eating with friends in the sun ensured a great start to the day. Music was initially provided by James on sax who was later joined by Albert on mouth organ and Barry’s band. Whist the more sedate members of the community enjoyed the sun and lively conversation, younger members of the community got stuck into mixed aged team games. Brilliantly organised by Nicky and Nina, this event not only demonstrated our young people’s keen competitive spirit but also saw our teenagers ably assisting the younger children. Well done chaps! Tea and coffee was kindly provided throughout the event by Barbara Hobson and Lisa. Barbara and Bernie did a great job manning the cake stall which raised £65 towards the day’s events.
The evening event, a Jubilee Bop, was well attended. Many thanks to those responsible for decorating the hall and a special thank you to Messy Church (especially Pam and the mums) for their centre piece crown which really did look splendid suspended from the ceiling! Again young and not so young danced the night away to a selection of music from across the decades provided by Adam Reed. Well done, to those of you who went the extra mile in terms of outfits; Joe where did you get that hair? And thanks to Mike (The Black Horse) for providing the bar and Barry and James for their sterling work on the pumps.
